美國北卡羅來納州大學附屬醫院的感染控制專家近期研究發現，與用消毒泡沫、消毒濕巾擦拭等新凈手方式相比，傳統的用肥皂和水洗手的方法除菌效力最強。
研究人員給62名志愿者的手上涂上細菌和病毒，然后讓他們分別用14種凈手用品和自來水清洗或擦拭，最后發現，使用肥皂和水洗手的效力并不亞于使用氯消毒劑，能夠除去絕大部分病菌，甚至包括炭疽病毒孢子。而醫院常用的含酒精洗手泡沫則達不到這樣的效果。使用消毒濕巾擦拭的方法，消除病菌的效率最低。
