To reach your goal in life you must work hard and never give up. You must be determined and always have your head in the game; that is exactly what Jairo Madrigal did.

For the past four years, since he was in the eighth grade, Jairo has been wrestling. Starting from the bottom and working his way to the top is where Madrigal wants to be. Madrigal has always had an interest in this sport. With the support of his friends, fellow teammates and coach, he has succeeded in many ways over the years.

“Well our coach, Coach K, has really taught me to work hard to get the things I want,” Madrigal said. With hard work comes responsibility. You must always try your hardest to get what you want. “The sport has really taught me to discipline myself as an individual.”

When playing a sport in high school, it is always nice to have the company of your friends. Madrigal has had the support of some of his closest friends who are also on the wrestling team. “I do it [wrestling] with my closest friends like my cousin Raul Mata, Tyler Jones and Jose Gonzalez.” It always helps to have your friends by your side to support you in a defeat and when you win your matches.

In every high school event you always make some great memories that you will never forget. One of Madrigal's memories is when he went to the Eastern Yosemite League tournament on the varsity team as a freshman. “I’d have to say [one of my best memories] was when I took third at EYL my freshman year and having Micky on the team going to state. I’m proud of my freshman year the most. That’s when school was more of a breeze and I had more energy to put into my workouts and practices.”

Jairo Madrigal wrestles in the 152 pound weight class. He is currently a junior at Granite Hills High School and hopes to continue to wrestle during his senior year.

“I am glad I have been able to keep myself as a good representative of the team, but I know I have a lot to improve on and I am hoping to do so the rest of this year and next year as well.”'Just keep working hard and get your techniques down,” Madrigal says to those who hope to take the 'EYL champ' title someday in any sport. You must never give up and always give 110 percent of your effort to get what you want. Like coach says ‘Wrestling is a sport of conditioning and positioning.’”

i agree that this sport is about conditioning and positioning. without the right conditioning you slack off and your positioning is greatly affected. If you have great positioning, great!! but whats the point if you can only keep it up for half a period? This sport requires both elements to succeed.
