On Monday, Oct. 17, Granite Hills’ volleyball team came up short when battling the Marauders at Monache.
The Grizzlies played respectably all three games with scores of 25-21, 29-27 and 25-20.
“Our girls played tough,” said Rich Lambie, volleyball coach.
It was a game full of sweat and intensity as the both teams rallied back and forth in three very close matches.
“WHOA,” said Adilene Quintana, spectator and cheerleader at the game. “It was very intense! Everyone was going crazy!”
The Marauders kept a lead the first game, with the grizzlies trailing behind a couple points most of the time. When it came down to it, Monache was too far ahead.
At some point during the second game the Grizzlies were ahead 20-15.
“We were so close,” said Vanessa Felix. “We were pumped the second game because we honestly thought we were going to win.”
Even with that five point lead, the Grizzlies let the Marauders catch up, enticing a few very intense rallies.
“During the second game, we had them [the Marauders] scared,” said Mariela Tapia. “We could have won, we should have won.”
After two relentless games, everyone was tired; but that did not stop the Grizzlies from fighting for that third game.
“We really held our own,” said Jody Georgianna. “It was so exciting but we came out a little bit behind.”
Nevertheless, the Marauders were able to claim all three games, but the Grizzlies made sure to not make it easy.
“We played well enough to win,” said Lambie. “But we came up short and couldn’t put away the Marauders.”
