On Wednesday Sept. 5, the Granite Hills volleyball girls took on the Delano Tigers and lost all three games overall.

The Grizzlies played aggressively throughout all of the games, the final scores being 23-25, 10-25, and 20-25.

In the first game the Grizzlies played, they put up a fight as they played the number two ranked team in the league. What hurt the Grizzlies the most was that many times they were unable to return the sharp serves from Delano.

Lupita Flores and Debra Rodriguez, both seniors on the team, were obviously players who kept the game alive. As they made several blocks and quick digs, they saved the team many times.

At one point in the game, Flores made such a mind blowing spike that the audience stood and cheered to congratulate her.

Other players also played clean defense like Hannah Vehrs and Dulce Martinez. During the game, they both successfully made important passes that helped the team gain points.

In game two, the Grizzlies got wiped off the court by the Tigers. The girls played well but couldn’t pull it off as they got smashed by Delano.

“We did good, but didn’t give it our best,” said Mariela Tapia, senior at Granite.

Rodriguez successfully scored several points in the third game by changing it up between tipping the ball and spiking it. Granite played a great game and frustrated Delano several times.

As adrenaline was pumping, Mariela Tapia would trick the Tigers by making it seem as if she was about to pass the ball over, when she would change it up and smash it at them.

“In the next game we’re going to stay strong and not let up,” said Rodriguez.

These attempts were not good enough as Granite fell short of the glory.

“The girls played well, we just need to work on the loose ends,” said Richard Lambie, junior varsity coach for Granite, “Delano’s ranked second and we really put up a fight so I’m proud of them.”
