On Wednesday, Sept. 21, the Granite Hills volleyball team played an aggressive game against Mission Oak winning the dead lock in the fifth game.
The Grizzlies had lost the first two games, but they came back confidently and won the final three.
In the first and second game, Granite had a rough start. The girls lost 21-25. The Grizzlies were not going to give up, though. The girls came back in the third game winning 25-14.
“We fought to the end,” said senior Mariella Tapia.
The girls were excited and ready to put up a fight, Mission Oak had started to lose their momentum.
“I’m excited, it’s mind bottling,” said senior Priscilla Tanguma.
The fourth game the Grizzlies played determined whether they would win or lose. If they won they would play a fifth game for the tie breaker. The Grizzlies won 25-22 struggling for success. Mission Oak started to pick their game back up.
It all came down to the fifth and final game; the girls battled aggressively, not giving up. The game went back and forth, staying within a two-point range of the opponents score. Granite won the last game 15-12. Both teams exemplified great sportsmanship.
At the end of the game, Capitain Lupita Flores won the “Pursuing Victory with Honor” pin that is awarded by the referee for portraying the best attitude and most fair sportsmanship.
“There was great teamwork, we did good! And I’m glad we came back and fought,” said Wendy Camargo, a senior at Granite.
“We still have a lot to work on all around. There was total team effort tonight, no one gave up,” said Coach Bri Yorba.
Our lady Grizzlies have won their last two games. Hannah Vehrs, a junior, says,” I’m really proud of our team starting to pull it together and how they work hard and play smart. I hope we continue on this winning streak.”
