The sun was out, the dirt was raked, the grass was trimmed, and the lady Grizzlies were more than ready to play against the Porterville Panthers.
As the lady Grizzlies took the field in the first inning the energy was very high. Both teams were eager and wanted the win. The first inning ended in a tie, 0-0.
The second inning started with the Grizzlies out in the field, staying strong. They held all balls hit to them, and were thrown to Ashlee Halopoff at first.
As the Grizzlies switched with the Panthers, they were now on offense. The bats really started to come alive in the second inning with the Grizzlies ahead by 2. The score was now, 2-0.
The third inning the steaks were high when the Panthers scored 1. The score was now, 2-1. The game started getting intense when most of the runners were unable to score.
“The energy was very high and I could feel the win in our hands, we just needed to hold them, and keep our bats alive,” catcher, Kelsey Blackburn.
But sure enough when the Lady Grizzlies were back in the box, they came back scoring two more. The score was now, 5-1.
The fourth inning the Panthers were striking out left and right by Kaitlin Fife. Luckily, batter was able hit and score one for the Panthers.
“It felt really good to have all of those strike outs, and I’m glad I have my defense behind me every pitch. It is so amazing to see our team at our full potential,” pitcher, Fife.
The Panthers had to step back when the Grizzlies were up to bat. It was time for the Lady grizzlies to steal every base they could, being very aggressive on base. Unfortunately, the aggressiveness didn’t take a toll as they had hoped. Scoring none for the lady Grizzlies, the score, 5-2.
Panthers were up to bat in the fifth inning and grounded most of the balls to Bailey Conley, who dove and stopped them all, and then relayed it to Halopoff for the three outs.
“Believing in one another is more than you can ask for. We really came together and helped each other out. All of our strengths put together makes a very strong team,” second base, Conley.
While the Grizzlies were up to bat, they score two more runs off of the Panthers inability to catch and field the hard hit balls.
Now in the six inning both teams were successful in holding the defense. Unfortunately, the offense didn’t help either team. With neither team touching home plate, the score was 7-2.
Going in to the last and final inning, the seventh, the Grizzlies had to hold the panthers in order to get the win. They did a very good job, only letting the panthers score their last run on a walk.
“I thought that they played really well against Porterville, they kept their heads up and stayed strong. I’m very proud of our softball girls,” spectator, Taylor Means.
The final score was 7-3, Grizzlies taking the win right out the panthers paws.
The Grizzlies next home game is Thursday, April 7, against Tulare Western.
