As both teams arrived at the pools on Thursday, Oct. 20, suited up, and got their caps on, both the Grizzlies and the Redskins looked each other in eye, knowing this would be a game worth playing.

Unfortunately, the Grizzlies came up short and the Redskins won the game, 12-9.

The game started off with the Tulare Union Redskins taking possession of the ball. The Granite Hills Grizzles were off to a slow start and were unable to cover the passes and shots. The ending score of the first quarter was 0-5, Redskins.

“We had excellent momentum, but if we would have had a couple more minutes, we would have won, no doubt,” said a fan of the Grizzlies.

The second quarter the Grizzlies picked up the pace. With the help of Meagan Carazolez, Daisy Cupis, and Kelly Rodriguez, the whole set Ashlee Halopoff was able to score successfully.

As a foul was called for Kayla Maldonado for the Granite Hills Grizzlies, Isabel Ruiz sprinted down the pool to receive a pass by Halopoff and also scored.

The Grizzlies out scored the Redskins 3-1 in the second quarter. The score was now, 6-3, Redskins.

“In the beginning we fell short of some points because we were off to a slow start, but once we picked up the pace, we knew it would be a battle,” stated Cupis.

After a quick team discussion, the Granite Hills Grizzlies were more than confident for the second half of the game. Goalie for the Grizzlies, Adriana Felix blocked more than seven shots. As Felix passed to Carazolez, she quickly looked down the pool to find Cupis. As Cupis received the ball she was unable to score, because she was out of position. The score was now 10-5, still the Redskins.

“As a senior playing with underclass men, I really feel honored to play with girls who are dedicated to sport that they only stared this year. This game was different from most, I saw every player try their hardest and the score board showed that we indeed tried our hardest,” stated Felix.

The forth and final quarter the Grizzlies had to give it everything they had to posses a win.

As the Redskins set up their defense, the Grizzlies were ready to play their offense. Felix passed to Rodriguez; Halopoff was being double teamed so that option was out.

Finally Briana Coulter, who was open, got the pass and threw it to Sabrina Simpson who shot it, and scored a goal. Halopoff received assists from Carazolez, Simpson and Rodriguez.

The Grizzlies once again out scored the Redskins 4-2 in the forth quarter. The final score was 12-9, Redskins.

“We did great and we played aggressive,” stated Coach Chapman. “Everyone got involved and it was just an overall good game.”
