With the climate change suddenly getting warm, the girls water polo team was ready for some competition out at the pool on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The girls didn’t start their game until 5:30 p.m. because of a schedule change. As the girls started arriving for their game, they zipped up their suits and found their correct caps to start the game.

Exeter proved to be the better team and took home the win, 13-4.

“I knew this was going to be a tough game, but we kept our heads held high and I think over all we did pretty well,” stated Daisy Cupis.

The first quarter started off with Exeter gaining possession of the ball. The Lady Grizzlies quickly fled to their defensive spot to hopefully steal the ball. Off to a rocky start, and Exeter made three goals during this quarter. The quarter score was 3-0, Exeter taking the lead.

After a short break between quarters Adriana Felix, goalie for Granite Hills, blocked two fast shots to the upper left corner of the cage and many more after that.

Another player who did made more than three accountable passes into the whole set was Megan Carazolez, playing point for Granite Hills.

“This game was a good game for me and I was confident in myself and my team mates; the only thing I can say is we have got to stay focused if we really want the win. Other than that I am so proud of all of us pulling it together and playing hard,” said Carazolez.

Due to a good pass from Carazolez, Ashlee Halopoff was able to score a goal. The ending score of the second quarter was 8-1, Exeter still in the lead.

In the third quarter, the Grizzlies decided to play excellent defense to try to get a turn over from the other team. Carazolez made Exeter have six turnovers the entire game.

“I thought the game could have gone better; in practice we need to work harder and we will reach our full potential. We have a couple extra days because the schedule changed, so I know we can do it,” stated Cupis.

As Carazolez got the ball she looked down the pool to find Halopoff. Halopoff got the ball and passed it even further to Isabel Ruiz, wing for Granite. Ruiz successfully scored now making the score 13-2, Exeter still with the lead.

The forth and final quarter Halopoff was able to receive the ball from Felix and tried to pass it into Cupis for a couple points. Unsuccessfully, the ball was turned over to Exeter.

“I am so excited for our next game because I can see the improvement of everyone and how we work together; it can only get stronger,” said Kelly Rodriguez.

The ball was recovered and passed to Halopoff to make two more goals. Rodriguez, wing for Granite, played strong defense along with Kayla Maldonado, as well as Serina, flat for Granite.

The ending score was 13-4, Exeter taking the win.
