Granite Hills High School’s number one tennis player, Lisa Yang, ironically did not like tennis to begin with. But even so, she started to come out on top as she first started.
“I used to think tennis was lame and boring, but I went out to tennis practice one day with my two cousins the summer before my freshman year and I started to enjoy it,” says Yang. “By the time I started school, I made it on the varsity team.”
Yang finds that the exercise is very beneficial while playing tennis.
“It’s a much easier way to exercise I guess you can say. There’s a lot of running and sprinting,” says Yang.
Coach Randy Smee is very proud of Yang.
“She’s came a long way. I’m glad to see she’s accomplished this much,” says Smee.
Fellow teammate Ernestina Quintero speaks highly of Yang as well.
“She’s the cutest little tennis player, but behind her cuteness is a vicious monster that wins,” says Quintero.
Yang’s proudest moment was one that left her ecstatic.
“When I found out that I was the only player in our league that got two games off of Monache's #1 player, I was amazed and shocked. She is a very competitive player,” says Yang.
Yang finds that she learns from both wins and losses.
“From winning, I learn what I do right and how I should keep playing like. From losing, I learn my mistakes and correct it. Whether it's winning or losing, I still have a good time playing and I know what improvements I need to make to become a better player,” says Yang.
