The Granite Hills girls varsity soccer team played cross-town rivals, Monache High School, on Monday, Jan. 30.
The Grizzlies did the best they could, but unfortunately were not able to come up with the win.
“We just didn’t play as well as we could have. It was a good game and we gave our best effort, that’s all I could ask for from my team,” said senior captain Debra Rodriguez.
Monache had a strong defense throughout the game.
“It was hard getting past the defense. Although they had a strong line, our defense was also trying really hard,” said senior Megan Anguiano.
The first half seemed harder than the second, as the Lady Grizzlies tried to figure out the tactics of the Marauders.
"During the second half is when you start to get a feel of the game. We are more prepared in the second half of any game because we see how the other team is playing and which weaknesses they have," said sophomore Melissa Martinez.
Granite's forwards hustled down the field with much determination. The Grizzlies center midfielders tried their hardest to get the ball, but they couldn't quite get into the scoring position they desired.
Although the Grizzlies did not come up with the win, they played hard.
"Every single one of my teammates played really hard. We definitely left our hearts on that field and I'm proud to be apart of this team," said Martinez.
