On Friday, Jan. 13, the Granite Hills girls’ varsity soccer team faced one of our cross-town rivals, Porterville High School.
Granite put up a good fight, taking pride in representing their school; however, they fell short, losing 3-0.
"We made some mistakes, and Porterville was smart enough to capitalize on it," said Coach Gabe Rodriguez.
It was an exciting game for both teams. They both had good performances overall, but Porterville had a better strategy and came out on top.
"We really needed at least one goal to keep us motivated. Porterville played a good game, but I know we could have done better," said Rodriguez.
Daisy Cupis, a junior at Granite, played a very good game. She was very aggressive and kept her momentum going throughout the whole game.
"Daisy did an awesome job that game, I can definitely see her becoming a good and positive athlete," said Melissa Martinez, a sophomore at Granite.
Junior varsity soccer player Juana Saldana, a junior at Granite, sees much potential in the varsity team.
"They should always stay positive. They just need to learn each other’s strengths and weaknesses; then they can progress further as a team," said Saldana.
Although Granite did not end with a victory this game, they are confident that they will be better prepared next time.
"We will be more prepared next time we play them. Since we do not have games this following week, it will give us more time to practice and become better," said Rodriguez.
