On Tuesday, Oct. 4, Granite Hills’ girl's golf team went up against Delano High School at the Delano Golf Course.
The last time the lady Grizzlies played against DHS, they beat them by 36; yesterday they barely missed the win by six strokes.
"I didn't do so good in this match, but I can't have myself down about it. I just have to look forward to the next match. I know I'll do better," said golfer, Bailey Conley.
Last week, Coach Boyd was out sick from Wednesday to Monday, so the girls didn't have practice.
Yesterday, individually, two girls won their match and the others missed the win by only a few. Number one golfer, Alexis Quiling led the team score with 48 and number two golfer, Brooke Quiling followed right behind with a 50. Number 6 golfer, Jereniss Alcantar and number four golfer, Suheid Cisneros also shot close with a 64 and 65. Number three golfer, Bailey Conley hit a 71 and number five golfer, Jazmin Perez scored a 75.
For DHS, their number 1 golfer, Shelby Stout led her team with a 54.
"We were so close to winning. I'm really proud of my score today, and I know the team will definitely do better in the next match," says Brooke.
The Lady Grizzlies' next match is with Strathmore High School on Thursday, Oct. 6 which will be an automatic win because SHS only has two golfers on their team this year.
Then, Monday, Oct. 10 will be away against Cesar Chavez. Following that, Tuesday, Oct. 11 is the EYL tournament, which is still being decided to be held at either the Delano or Kern Golf Course.
Coach Boyd said, "This golf season went by so fast and I'm proud of my girls. Some just need to improve by a few and I know we'll have it in EYL."
The team is running in second this year with a record of 6-3. There are only two more matches before EYL.
