Last game of the year

Emotions flew on senior night as roses were handed to the senior players’ parents. At the last varsity girls basketball game of the year, the Lady Grizzlies lost to Tulare Western.

The first quarter started off with the ball in the Mustangs’ hands. As the Grizzlies defense was shuffled around a quick point was scored. The game started 2-0, Mustangs favor.“We gave it our all but it was not in our favor,” stated Senior Lupita Flores, “I still thank all [of] my teammates for being there for me and I am really going to miss them.”

In the second quarter Elena Galvez received multiple passes added eight points for the Grizzlies. Kelsey Blackburn added four points by shooting two-two point shots. As Ashlee Halopoff passed the ball to Lupita Flores, Flores found Yo Sasorith open for another two point shot.

“I am not only proud of myself but I am proud of my teammates,” stated Senior Kelsey Blackburn, “we were always there for each other and I feel they really supported the seniors the whole season, I loved my team.”

As half time began, the seniors from the cheerleading squad were announced and did a senior dance.

During the third quarter, Megan Carazolez got two rebounds and successfully passed to Sasorith. Flores made many attempts to shoot for the points and was successful. Flores also had 8 defensive rebounds and 5 offensive rebounds.

“It was amazing! It was a great night I loved how everyone was supported by the crowd,” stated senior cheerleader Courtney Collins.

By the fourth and final quarter of the last game of the year, Blackburn recovered a lost ball and gained possession in Granite’s favor. The Mustangs improved their offensive shooting secured the victory.

The end of the game ended with the seniors, Flores and Blackburn, as well as the team, giving it their all for their last game.

Final score,35-61 lady Grizzlies trailing behind.
