This is the second year in a row that the Granite Hills Grizzly Football team has made it to the Division V playoffs.
The sad thing about last year’s playoff appearance was that the Grizzlies came up short and lost in the first round against a very good Caruthers Blue Raiders football team.
This year the Grizzlies will face off against the Liberty Hawks from Madera in the first round of the playoffs. However, unlike last year, both teams are evenly matched with both teams having a record of 4 wins and 6 losses.
What makes this playoff appearance special for the Grizzlies is that it is the last high school playoff appearance most of the players will ever be in. Due to the fact that more than half of the players on the team are seniors and this could be the last football they ever play in their lives.
The fact that this could be some of the last football they ever play does not really seem to bother the Grizzly seniors that much, it is actually what is motivating them. It is evident that the Grizzlies want to win this Friday’s playoff game and there does not seem to be anything that will be able to hold them back.
“We have all the capability and more to go far in the playoffs and win the championship. We are working hard for this and we are going to show it Friday night!” stated Senior Jairo Madrigal when asked what he thought about Friday’s playoff game.
This will not be an easy road for the Grizzlies throughout the playoffs. Most of the teams currently in the playoffs have a lot of playoff football experience. However there is no doubt that the Grizzlies will have great success in the playoffs and hopefully bring Granite Hills their first football playoff win in school history. Also, the Grizzlies could be the first team in Porterville to win a Valley Championship in any division.
There is no doubt that this game is huge for everybody at Granite Hills, but we all have tremendous faith in our Grizzly football team and we are positive that they will make us proud tonight.
The game will be played in Madera Ranchos tonight starting at 7 p.m. It is going to be yet another Grizzly football game that you are not going to want to miss.
