If a student were to walk past the mini gym after school they would hear the Granite Hills High School cheerleaders practicing cheers or doing exciting stunts.
They definitely are not just about the glitter and glam; they are about dedication and hard work. They support all school activities and many community outreach projects.
The first big exciting community event the Granite Hills cheerleaders performed at was the Monte Vista “Back to School Night.”
Janelle Castillo, a returning Varsity cheerleader said, “We love doing things for our community and performing at the Monte Vista back to school night is something we’ve done for many years. We fell in love with it and always look forward to going back.”
After witnessing the performance at Monte Vista, the parents and students in attendance clapped and cheered in awe of the cheerleader’s great talents.
Immediately following this performance cheerleader Jessica Hernandez stated, “It was really fun performing for Monte Vista again, because out of all the high schools in Porterville, they ask us, and it feels amazing performing for them, because we work so hard and the look on the crowd’s faces is priceless! They always look so stunned, and that’s what encourages us to work harder; leaving people in awe when we perform.”
Granite cheer squad has many plans to continue serving and giving back to the community.
With the first football game behind them, the cheerleaders feel confident but continue to make an effort to become an even stronger squad.
Varsity team captain Stephanie Bedolla said, “What I think makes us an amazing, well put together squad is that we strive to always be better and we always try our hardest to get where we want to be. We work well together as a squad and treat each other like family.”
It is clear that the entire squad is pumped and excited about the upcoming games and events planned for this school year. After spending only a few minutes at an afternoon practice it is quite clear how much spirit and dedication these cheerleaders have to their program and their school.
