By Fernando Gonzalez and Ismael RuizThe Grizzlies faced the Cesar Chaves Titans Wednesday night in a very exciting and rewarding game.
The Grizzlies started the game hot and ended it even hotter, getting a big win after many weeks filled with losses and blood, sweat, and tears gone to waste.
The Grizzlies got on top early beating the Titans 5-3 in the first minute or two of the game. This got the crowd even happier than they already were after watching Grizzlies.
Boys JV team pommel the JV Titans by a score of 20 keeping their undefeated home streak alive.
The Grizzlies varsity defense kept denying the Titans offense from scoring any points at all. The Grizzlies Defense was playing almost flawlessly.
Point guard, Francisco Lopez, continued to increase the Grizzly lead by draining in 3 point shot after shot, which caught the Titans by surprised as they could find no way to stop it.
Francisco Lopez said, “I was happy when I watched those shots going in, but that’s what we practice for, to get better at what we do. I just wanted to keep getting the ball so I could keep making more shots!”
It wasn’t until halfway through the second quarter when the Titans started to score some points and get some momentum going their way. And were able to end the half 25-23 and only down by 2 points.
However, the Grizzlies were not done yet, they were determined to win the game and come out victorious. The Grizzlies came out fast scoring lay-ups and taking shots left and right.
Once again the Titan defense came out lazily and the Grizzlies were able to take advantage and get a comfortable lead. Which made both the players and the Grizzly fans excited that they were so close to getting a win.
Thanks to Tello Guzman and Dante Cunningham the Grizzlies were able to keep their lead and Grizzly hopes alive. Both players played outstanding defense and kept the ball in the Grizzlies’ possession for most of the game.
The game got a lot closer halfway through the fourth quarter when the Titans came within six, but the great Grizzly defense was able to hold them and ended the game victorious with a score of 45-36.
Not only was this win a great boost in moral for the players, but it also helps keep possible playoff hopes alive for this young Grizzly team.
