To get students out of trouble and into fun, the Fifth Quarter dance will offer a safe supervised environment.
Porterville Parks and Recreation, local schools, local churches, Granite, Monache, and Porterville High School's ASB wanted to create this for students and kids to go after football games. They call it "Fifth Quarter" because it is right after the football game.
On Satuday, Dec. 3, Fifth Quarter will last from 8 p.m. until midnight and will be a collaboration of all the high schools in the Porterville Unified School District.
“It is a good way to spend your time wisely with friends,” said Ashlee Halopoff.
The dance is located at the Heritage Center on 256 E. Orange, one block east of El Tapatio.
To encourage students to come, the cost of admission is free with a student identification card.
“This dance will be fun because not only is it a dance, but there will be other activities held there as well which sounds very entertaining, such as the Xbox tournament,” said senior Eduardo Gamboa.
The dance officially begins at 9 p.m., there will be school competitions, and Xbox tournament, and even laser tag.
“Ever since I heard of Fifth Quarter, I was very excited to attend,” said senior Kelsey Blackburn. “I am glad the idea was brought up now, before our senior class graduates. I will be working shifts during the dance to help out the clubs.”
Each school participating is allotted three clubs to have food to use as a fundraiser to support the clubs. Granite Hills High School will have journalism, z club, as well as CSF participating to sell food. Students will be working shifts to help sell all of the food which will benefit their clubs.
“Many people are excited about this upcoming dance,” said senior Ernestina Quintero. “I have high hopes that everything will turn out wonderfully.”
