Sarah Clifford, former Granite Hills High School alumni, graduated from the class of 2008 and now attends the University of California, Los Angeles.

Clifford has two unforgettable moments while at Granite.

“My favorite memory at Granite is a tie between winning Grand Champions at nationals for cheerleading my sophomore year, and traveling to Denver, Colorado where the Gazette won the National Scholastic Press Association Online Pacemaker,” said Clifford.

Clifford appreciated the support the staff had given her while at Granite.

“Almost every member of the staff at Granite touched my life in one way or another, but my favorites were definitely Ms. Chavez, Mr. Hackett, and Mrs. Shannon,” said Clifford.

Clifford valued the help and encouragement she received from these staff.

“Ms. Chavez was always there for me and helped me become the woman I am today. Mr. Hackett challenged me, and because of that I was able to grow. As for Mrs. Shannon, she always kept me on the right track and had the best advice when I needed it,” said Clifford.

Clifford enjoyed Granite and everything it offered while she was in high school.

“Granite was definitely a fun place to be when I was there. There was always a concert, or a rally, or a dress up day,” said Clifford.

While at Granite, Clifford had two favorite classes.

“For my favorite class, again it's a tie: Associate Student Body because it challenged me to break out of my shell and be more of a leader, and Hackett's AP Language class because it was challenging, but rewarding,” said Clifford.

One main thing at Granite really prepared Clifford for college.

“Taking AP classes at Granite prepared me for college, more so than anything else,” said Clifford.

According to many teachers, Clifford was a good, hard working student while attending Granite.

“She was one of my top students. She was very articulate and a hard worker,” said Stacy Vehrs, Clifford’s AP Environmental Science teacher.

Some teachers believe that many students underestimated Clifford’s abilities.

“I think Sarah Clifford was Granite’s Elle Woods,” said Evan Hackett, Clifford’s AP English teacher, “because of her beauty and involvement in cheerleading, many people underestimated her intelligence.”

Clifford encountered some distractions during her high school life, but ended up getting back on the right track.

“I fell in love and lost myself and my dreams. It's easy to get lost in someone else and ignore your dreams,” said Clifford, “I forgot everything I had worked for, but that was my senior year. Other than that, I was distracted a lot during high school by my parents and my family.”

Clifford transferred colleges many times, searching for what she thought was right for her future.

“As far as colleges, I've been to my share. I started at University of California, San Diego, but following some complications I decided to head Cuesta College is San Luis Obispo while I figured out what I wanted to do next,” said Clifford, “Now I'm at UCLA finishing up my bachelors in communications, with an emphasis in mass media. I will graduate in December of this year.”

While attending the University of San Diego, Clifford enjoyed meeting lots of new people.

“In UCSD, I lived in the dorms and loved how many people you met on a daily basis,” said Clifford.

As far as dorm rooms, Clifford had the best experience in San Luis Obispo.

“In SLO, I lived in a house with a few other girls, which I think was my best experience,” said Clifford.

Clifford enjoys her new living environment at UCLA.

“Here at UCLA, I'm living in a studio with another student in university housing, which I think (at least for an upperclassmen) is definitely the way to go,” said Clifford.

Clifford may have a job at Fox News when she graduates college.

“As far as Fox goes, who knows,” said Clifford, “I had an internship with them and made some great connections that I know will help me get a job after I graduate, be it with Fox or another company.”

Clifford advises students just about to graduate high school to have fun and never miss class.

“For any students about to leave for college, I'd say take it all in, have fun, but make sure you go to class! There's no one there testing you if you did your readings, no one to get you into trouble for not showing up to school,” said Clifford, “you've got to do it all yourself.”

Clifford urges students to do as well as they can while at college because one bad test grade ruins the overall grade in the class.

"For most of my classes I have one midterm, one final, one paper, said Clifford, "If I completely fail on one of them, there goes any shot of getting a decent grade."
