Isain Reyes, a Granite Hills graduate of the class of 2004, returned to Granite to substitute for Janice Rodriguez.
“The teachers are still as committed as before. I still recognize some of them and since they are still here, they must be even more dedicated to the school and its students,” stated Reyes.
In Reyes’s eyes, the staff was not the only ones applying the effort to getting a good name started for Granite.
“Everyone was dedicated. It was the first year and this was a new school. The students had the spirit because they were trying to build a reputation for Granite,” declared Reyes.
Reyes graduated from Humboldt State University and Parris X University, but he still continues to strive for success and is applying to other graduate schools.
“There are several schools, but my top three would be Boston University, Brown University, and Cornell University; all in the Ivy League. I am applying to them for creative writing,” said Reyes.
Reyes seemed to be very interested in the aspects of English and also in the study of French and its culture.
“My first major was in English creative writing and my second one was in French and in Francophone studies,” notified Reyes.
Reyes is someone that believes that the amount of time stuck in school is nothing compared to the passion that one has for their job.
“People should do what they want to do even if it means being in school for ten years,” concluded Reyes.
Reyes struggled through AP English Language his junior year at Granite. Then, the topic of Queen Elizabeth came around and having studied Queen Elizabeth prior to writing the essay, Reyes performed substantially better on his essay.
“Isain taught me the importance of my students having background knowledge about the topic that they are working on,” stated Evan Hackett, former teacher of Reyes.
