Every four years, the State FFA officers visit local high schools and speak to them about agriculture commodities, different jobs in the agriculture environment, and play games to get the students involved.
“I was really happy that the officers came while I was in school. The students are going to have to wait another four years before the next officer make a visit,”said Madison Rice.
This year, the vice president, Kenna Lewis, and reporter, Clay Kruise, visited Granite Hills. They interacted with the students and taught them many facts about how California is one of the leading states for agriculture necessities.
“My favorite part about them was that they were so friendly and weren’t afraid to talk to us. They were loud and I liked that about them,” said Sierra Lopez.
Students were taught about all the different conferences that they are able to attend throughout the year. There are conferences for first year members, second year members, and those who have been enrolled in an agricultural class for three or more years. FFA members are encouraged to get involved and meet new people at these conferences. The students are able to learn about FFA and at the same time learn life skills that will benefit them in the future.
“From what they told me, I think I am going to go to the State FFA conference. It sounds like so much fun and it’s something I have never done before so it’ll be cool going for once,” said Isabel Ayala.
In four years, there will be different officers who will come and visit the school. Their plan is to inspire young FFA members to get more involved and get to know why agriculture is so important to the world.
