For the longest time, Agriculture advisor Danell Daniel wanted to add some pizzazz to Granite Hills’ campus.
One thing she always had in mind was building a deck. She has planted apple trees, flowers and other plants but never built a deck.
“I always wanted to do it. I wanted to beautify Granite and to possibly teach kids a project that they could take home,” Daniel said.
To make this idea come to life, Daniel would need some help. One of her very active FFA members, Josh Woodward is a very important aspect to this project.
“I needed students who were willing to take on the responsibility and Josh was one of them,” Daniel said. Some of her student from her plant science class also helps with this project.
Since school started, Woodward has been working on the deck. He spends the majority of fifth period outside room 606 working on this.
“A small deck would be nice to have on campus so students could just sit down and look at the school and see beauty in it,” Woodward said.
Being a very creative young man, Woodward thought of the design.
“I actually drew up the plans myself,” said Woodard. “I enjoy building and I hope to peruse a career in architecture.”
Woodward is a senior at Granite Hills High School and is planning on going to Reedley College. He would like to major is architecture and build homes, decks and other projects around the community.
Woodward hopes to have the deck built and complete by December.
“Being an active FFA member, it’s really cool seeing how our Ag. Department is trying to improve the school’s look. I would like to do some kind of project for the school in the future,” FFA member Madison Rice said.
