As the Porterville Fair begins a brand new year, so does one for Granite Hills FFA. GHHS FFA has much to offer the fair this year.
The theme this year being, “A race to endless opportunities,” helped the FFA chapter improve in size and growth in the community.
This year, there will be 4 lambs shown. The exhibitors are seniors, Josh Woodward, Kaitlin Fife, and James Blackwell, and sophomore Madison Rice.
“I think my lamb, Jade, will do the best that she can at the fair. I have been working really hard with her to make sure that she moves and set-ups efficiently,” said Rice.
There will also be one meat goat shown by senior Jacque Harlin. This will be her fourth year showing and her second year showing her meat goat, Molly. Also in the goat category, Toni Lopez will be showing her 3 pigmy goats. This is her sixth year showing goats. Besides goats, Lopez attempted to also show a rabbit for the first time.
“I believe my goats will show wonderfully at the fair this year. I always try my best and hardest when working with them at home and at the fairgrounds,” said Lopez.
Casey Cabral and Summer Shannon will be exhibiting hogs for Granite this year. Cabral has a cross while Shannon has a Hampshire hog. This is Cabral’s first year showing at the Porterville Fair and Shannon’s seventh year.
There will be two beef exhibits this year, shown by Shannon. She will be showing a Hereford Steer, named Danny and a Charlotte Limousine Angus Heifer, named Minion. This is Shannon’s first year showing a steer and second year showing a heifer.
Senior, Rebekka Gonzalez will be one of the many showing chickens this year. This will be her fourth and final year showing at the Fair.
Harlin said, “I think the fair this year will be a great outcome for Granite Hills. We have a wider variety of animals and hopefully the showing and placing’s will turn out great.”
“I look forward to showing at the new fairgrounds because it is so spacious and it is more organized than it was before,” said Rice.
