A new show called Awkward hit MTV this summer; it gives insight of an average teenager’s life, as well as the obstacles a teenager may face and the way that they would overcome them.
Ashley Rickards plays Jenna Hamilton, where she portrays the main character, an awkward 15 year old sophomore that is engulfed in a drama filled world. She is a typical love-struck teenager who is involved in secret relationships, drama, and social statuses.
She has her own blog (like that of most teenagers) where she expresses her feelings and every conscious thought in her mind. Rickards is also the narrator of the television show.
“I think it’s so popular because it talks about a normal person, someone that isn’t rich, smart, or even pretty. The show expresses a life like ours,” said junior Toni Lopez “I enjoy watching the show because it has drama, but I also like watching it because it relates to an average teenagers life.”
The new MTV sensation aired its pilot on July 17 2011, and ever since then the sitcom has been an eye-catcher to all ages that have come across it.
“I absolutely love the show! It’s amazing and I watch it all the time,” said junior Ashlee Halopoff.
Jenna Hamilton (Rickards) is seen as a social outcast thanks to her parents and her somewhat “awkward” tone. She is opinionative and suffers the embarrassing moments that occur throughout all of high school.
“It reminds me of Sixteen Candles; it actually has an episode where the main character turns 16 and talks about how her day isn’t good at all,” said sophomore Madison Stubbs. “It is actually really humorous.”
The end of this season left many unanswered questions about the series. Though it left viewers astonished, the season finale kept hopes up for a new season that answers important questions from the last.
