The city of Porterville gathered at the Porterville Frank “Buck” Shafer auditorium on Saturday, Feb. 26, for the City of Hope Spectacular.

They watched singing, dancing, and instrumental performances. City of Hope is an organization in Duarte, Calif. that is a private, not-for-profit clinical research center, hospital, and graduate medical school for cancer patients. The event on Saturday was to help raise money for the organization.

The Granite Hills High School percussion ensemble was one of the many acts of the night. They opened the second half of the show.

“The percussion ensemble was the best act there. They were so amazing! I love watching them do what they do,” said junior Kathleen Jurkovich.

The show started at 7 p.m. with a pre-show. At 7:30 p.m., the first half opened with the Fabulous Studio Band playing, and included 22 acts of talented singing, dancing, baton twirling, instrumental and even sign language.

“Seeing all the different talents Porterville has makes me proud to live in this amazing city. I’m glad that our drum line got involved and showed all of Porterville what they can do,” said junior Ernestina Quintero.

There was a short intermission after the first of the 22 acts. After the intermission, the Granite Hills percussion ensemble had a great performance that got the audience ready for the second act. There was a total of 8 acts in the second half, more dancing and singing kept the audience entertained until the finale.

For the finale, the Fabulous Studio Band played while all of the acts were recalled to the stage and ran out into the audience.

The whole show went without a hitch and ended at about 10:30 p.m.

“We have a lot of talented people in Porterville. I was very happy to see all the different performances,” said Granite Hills parent Priscilla Blackburn.
