Thanksgiving is a chance for many families to spend time together after being a part for much of the year.
It is a good time to reflect on the love that people have for one another, as well as sharing their thoughts about what they feel grateful for. More than half of American families make Thanksgiving dinner special by saying grace.
“I celebrate thanksgiving with my family and we all get together to have a big dinner and talk to people we haven’t seen in a while,” said sophomore, Justin Grubbs.
Turkey is such an important part of Thanksgiving; more than 90 percent of Americans eat it during Thanksgiving.
Aside from eating turkey during Thanksgiving, the following food items are popular Thanksgiving cuisine: ham, corn, cranberries, stuffing, and mash potatoes and gravy.
Although America is multicultural, most families spend Thanksgiving eating ham and turkey with their families.
“When my family gets together, we have turkey and ham, but we also have rice with our meal,” said Junior Winston Thao.
Some multi-cultural families do not stick with the traditional Thanksgiving feast.
“My family never has turkey. We always have Mexican food like pozole, tamales, enchiladas, all the good stuff my mother cooks,” said junior Yesenia Velasquez.
Thanksgiving is a reminder to give thanks for the good things, people and events in one’s life.
