The girls from the Granite Hills High School Choir traveled to Clovis to perform in Women’s Fest at the Clovis North Performing Arts Center on Nov. 4.
“It was a really great experience; we got to see a lot of choirs and we had a lot of competition, but I think we did well and we hope to get better as we go along,” said senior Alexadria Knott.
All Girls who are in choir were selected to participate in this event. The girls consisted of Treble Choir, Concert Choir, and Honor Choir.
The choir sang two songs for Dr. Robert Istad, the choir director of CSU Fullerton.
Sophomore Stephanie Hicks said, “The Women’s Fest was really fun and it was just really great getting to go and sing to everybody and have people sing to us.”
Dr. Istad gave some tips to the choir to make their singing sound more mature and easier on their voice.
Freshman Serena Simpson said, “It was fun. I think we had some competition but I think we did [well].”
The songs they sang were “All Join Hands” American Game Song by Emily Crocker and “Sebben Crudele” an Italian Art Song by Antonio Caldara.
The choir was accompanied by the director, Ms. Sasana Efseaff, and pianist, Richard Robinson.
“It was really fun, an all-time favorite women’s fest choir event for me,” said Elizabeth Dowling.
Suheid Cisneros, also a senior at Granite, felt that the performance was a little on the rough side.
“I liked it, but I feel like we needed improvement,” said Cisneros.
The girls performed in front of the Clovis North High School director, Heather Bishop. After the performance was over, the girls were shown better ways to sing.
“There are so many techniques on learning how to sing. It was fun to learn ways to improve my voice and sound,” said junior Mayra Zendejas.
The next performance for all of Granite Hills Choir will be the Winter Concert, in the first week of December.
