Winter break has come to an end and second semester will bring new events to the Granite Hills Choral program.
The choir students are looking forward to the California Music Educators Association festival, choir tours, and the annual Pops Concert. These events are spanned from early March until the middle of May, as the school year ends.
“I’m looking forward to the new music and concerts. I’m also excited that we got new people this semester," said Isabel Ruiz, who is also a participate in this year’s Honor Choir.
The choir is already working on three songs for this year’s CMEA. They are influenced by different cultures throughout the world. The pieces "Kyrie" and "Danza, Danza, Fanciulla" arranged by Arthur Frackenpohl and Francesco Durante are Latin based, while "Zikr" by A. R Ramham is an Islamic chant.
"This year there’s so much to experience, it’s all new to me since it’s my first time in choir," said Bertha Moreno.
This year’s theme for the Pops Concert is titled Jazz. Brainstorming is still under way for the concert as the choir turns into a performing “Glee Club” with choreography and skits.
"Choir is a place where I like to let loose because I could express myself through the music I am singing. I wouldn’t be able to do that in any other class at Granite Hills," said Tenny Chan who is enrolled in Concert Choir.
An exciting year with many opportunities is awaiting the choir students of Granite, until then they will be hard at work to make this year a good one.
