manda Cha is Grizzly alumnus from the Class of 2007. She is currently majoring in biology with an emphasis on pre med at Mills College.
She chose that major because she said she was always interested in science.
"Biology was something that really amazed me. It was fun learning about the organelles of a cell; the process of mitosis and meiosis and learning about the evolution and mutations of our body on a microscopic level," she said.
Cha says that she loves college life, and that it is different than high school life. She said that she feels more independent and more confident. She also loves the people at her college.
"The ladies in my residence hall are so supportive and determined. I have never met such committed people in my life. I also love my professors; they too are supportive and are not afraid to challenge us. I am really grateful to have such amazing and intelligent professors and friends here at Mills," she said.
Some of her involvements in college include: treasurer of the Class of 2011, treasurer for the Asian Pacific Islander Sisterhood Alliance, Telephone Outreach Program, and being a TA for calculus in the spring.
She said that her participation in AP Calculus last year has really helped with her calculus class this year.
"I was not the best student in calculus. I pretty much was hanging by a thread, and I for sure did not pass the AP exam. However, I took calculus again this fall and passed it with an A! Amazing ehh. My calculus professor even recommended me to be a TA for the spring," she said.
In high school she was involved in choir, gay and straight alliance club, basketball, Asian American club, grizz partners, and she was a staff member at a special education's care home facility.
What she misses about Granite is the social atmosphere. "I miss talking to the teachers as I'm going to class or starting a small conversation with the students as we head off to lunch. The thing about college is, you’re always on the run and there really is no time to talk or relax," she said. |
