The Icebreaker Dance The pyramid at Granite Hills High School was the place to be on Friday night, August 24. The ASB class kicked off the 2007/2008 school year with the Ice Breaker Dance, the biggest dance of year. The bridge leading into the pyramid filled with eager high school students waiting impatiently to get inside. “It was fun,” stated Elly Espino, a junior at GHHS, “A lot of people were there but it was really hot and they ran out of water too fast.” As the pyramid began to fill up, and students from different schools began to arrive, the lights were dimmed and the dancing began. Students from Monache, Porterville, and Strathmore socialized and danced with their friends from other schools. “It was awesome!” exclaimed Christina Hernandez, a sophomore from Monache High School, “People actually danced. I danced throughout the whole dance, so that was cool. Better than the dances at Monache!” The main reason ASB sponsors dances is to raise money for activities being hosted during the year. The money made during the dances goes back to the students. All the money used to compose homecoming week is primarily money made by the dances. Grizz Games, football decorations, and any other activity put on by ASB are paid with the money raised during dances. “I was really excited to see a large portion of our student body attend a fun positive event sponsored by ASB,” proclaimed Rebecca Chavez, ASB advisor. Chavez later stated, “the students at the dance were really well behaved and I think they had a really great time.” Throughout the year there will be plenty of other school dances to be hosted by ASB during the football season. “ASB did a great job putting on the daily activity and ending the day with a great dance,” said Mindy Boyer, a teacher at GHHS.
