I had already waived my health and computer classes, so I decided that it would be a good way to spend my time taking a class that helps young kids who have trouble with reading. The thing I remember most about that day was the smell. The smell of pretzels and cheese, the smell of dirt, chalk, and newly cut grass. But the most unforgettable smell of them all was the fragrance of happiness. To look around this place and see everyone happy, everyone content with themselves was the best smell of all. To see young boys running around smiling, laughing, yelling just made you want to stay there forever. At least for me and my best friend anyways, that's how we felt. The sun slowly rises from its rest in the East and the first entity that its golden rays touch is the colossal slab of granite that has long been christened Half Dome. The sun's potent light soon flows throughout the valley, although its mighty rays cannot alleviate the chill of the high meadows, which are still laden with crisp, glistening snow. As the sun finds its place in the sky, its rays gently pierce through the branches of the pine and incense cedar trees and soon finds my chilled face, which has found its rest by the sheer screen window of my two-room tent. My face begins to feel as warm as the rest of my body, which is nestled in a warm sleeping bag. read more>
