Lady Mustangs trample Lady Grizzlies

The Lady Grizzlies’ winning streak from the previous week didn't carry over to this week.

The Lady Grizzlies fell hard to the Tulare Western Mustangs on April 9, with a striking score of 10-0. The game, which ended by the mercy rule in the fifth inning, wasn't too pretty for the Grizzlies.

"We didn't lose tonight, we beat ourselves," coach Gabe Rodriguez said.

In the first inning, the Lady Grizzlies took the field for what should have been about seven minutes, but turned into about 20. Errors were tallied up, and the Grizzlies fell apart. The Lady Mustangs pulled in six runs.

Throughout the game, the Lady Grizzlies made seven errors, which is what knocked them out of the win. Sarah Blackburn pitched a complete game, racking up four strike-outs, and pitched only two walks.

On the upside, the Lady Grizzlies had 9 hits. Blackburn went a perfect 3-3. Zoë Kisling went 2-3, and contributed a sacrifice bunt. Deanna Alamillo also went 2-3, while Veronica Herrera and Marykate Herrera both went 1-3.

A loss such as this only means one thing: the Lady Grizzlies will have to redeem themselves and beat cross-town rival Porterville High School on Friday, April 11.

"If we come together as a team, good things will happen," Rodriguez said.
