Senior forward, Mari Garcia has been a Lady Grizzly varsity soccer player since she stepped out on the field as a freshman. An exceptional ball handler, Mari can outmaneuver her opponents and move the ball down the field like few other high school players can. Mari not only scores goals out on the field, but has lofty goals set for her future as well.
"Mari is a great team player and has done an awesome job this year as our forward," claims teammate Katie Taylor.
Mari has been found shooting goals since the age of nine, finding herself out on the fields of AYSO. She claims that soccer is the only sport you will ever see her spending her time doing and that it has made her into the leader that she is today. On the off season, Mari plays for a club team called F C Real Porterville, prepping her for the real deal, college soccer. Mari hopes to go to COS in Visalia to extend her soccer career while studying to become a teacher.
"Mari has a lot of talent and I can see her as someone advancing to the next level, and I really hope that she takes advantage of the talent she has," says Coach Gabe Rodriguez.
Outside of soccer, Mari is the average high school senior. She enjoys hanging out with her friends and family. On the weekends, Mari enjoys shopping at the mall and watching the newest movie at the local theatres. On campus, Mari takes classes to complete her senior year at Granite Hills. She is looking forward to all that her senior year has to offer.
One of her most memorable soccer moments at Granite Hills would come down to her sophomore year. This was the year that the Lady Grizzlies advanced to the Valley Playoffs competing against San Joaquin Memorial High School. Although they didn't come out on top, the memories will be with her forever.
With only three games left in her soccer career as a Lady Grizzly, come out and watch Mari strut her stuff and score the goals she is so well known for.
