This year's 2007 East Yosemite League cross country meet was hosted by Tulare Western High School, although the event took place at Live Oak Park in Tulare.  The 2 and 3 mile course experienced a few minor changes this year due to poor weather conditions prior to the race. Despite the last minute changes, the Granite Hills cross country team was determined to finish their final meet successfully.

The boys' frosh/soph 2 mile race was the first race to commence.  The Boys' frosh/soph team was comprised of three runners: freshmen Joe Cardenas, sophomore Tommy Brumfield, and freshmen Armando Gamboa . The team was missing their top runner, Anthony Hernandez, who had dominated the Fresh/Soph the entire season. Joe Cardenas started the race off, but dissipated in second half. Tommy Brumfield, behind Cardenas, progressed to third place, and proceeded to stay there
throughout the rest of the race. When asked how he felt, Cardenas said "I think individually we all did great, and I can't wait tell next year.”  Brumfield finished with the time of 11:40. Cardenas, not far behind, finished in 11th place with the time of 12:32, making his best time of the season. Armando finished 21st with the time of 13:09, he too, capturing his best time of the season.

The frosh/soph girls' race began after the completion of the boy's race.  The team was made up of two runners: freshmen Katie Taylor and sophomore Marykate Herrera. Taking first place in all races she participated in, Taylor hoped to maintain her winning streak throughout the EYL meet. The race began with Taylor in 1st place with
Herrera closely trailing behind her.  First year runner Herrera completed the race in 6th place with a total time of 15:00 minutes. Taylor maintain 1st place throughout the 2 mile course  becoming the EYL champion for the frosh/soph girls'.  In regards to her big win Taylor stated: "I feel I worked hard the whole season, and it paid off.  I did my best, and the team overall worked hard and did their best, as well. Most received our best times at this meet.

Varsity boys' was the next race to take place at the meet. Senior Sal Madrigal and junior Ivan Yanez were the two runners that made up the Grizzlies varsity team. Madrigal did great in the Varsity race, finishing 4th behind two Tulare Western runners and one Cesar Chavez runner. He finished with the time of 17:02. Yanez also did great
coming out half way through the season running his first 3 mile time in 19:29, and he finished with The EYL championship  time of 18:27, cutting his time down by nearly a minute. Yanez finished 21st out of 62 runners and said, "I think did okay. I hope to do much better next year".

Sal Madrigal was the only Granite Hill's runner to qualify to compete in the Valley Championships. Sal says that he would like to get his time down to 16:20 and feels like he has a good chance to place well considering that Granite Hills in a Division 3 school. When asked about the outcome of the East Yosemite League Cross-Country meet, Coach Herve said, "We did real well. We placed in 3 out of the 4 divisions. We had a lot of runners place really high, and I think we did good"

The Cross Country team this year had a lot of fun running, and that is ultimately was in most improvement. The Cross Country team encourages anyone interested in running to come out next year.
