Grizzly Boys fall to Lindsay Cardnials

The Granite Hills varsity boys soccer team held their second scrimmage against the Lindsey Cardinals on Wednesday, November 28, at Jacob Rankin stadium.

Last year’s match up between the teams was a battle until the end, but the Grizzlies came out on top with the final score 2 -1. This year’s Grizzlies hoped to do the same. And the Grizzlies did come out strong with the ball moving from end to end. Soon, sophomore Tommy Brumfield scored the first goal of the game for Granite. The score didn’t stand long and Lindsey came right back with a goal of their own tying the game up at 1-1. As a few more minutes went by the Cardinals scored again making the game 2-1. Lindsey stayed strong with their offense and scored again, making the score 3-1.

“I think we played really good for our first home game; even though we came out short on the win,” said mid-fielder Juilian Espino.

As the second half began the Grizzlies were determined to make another push to get back in to the game. Junior Ivan Yanez took the ball away from Lindsey defender and gave a chipped it over the Lindsey keeper’s head, making the score 2-3, Grizzlies down. Lindsey player, Tony Godoy, dribbled the ball down the sideline and was fouled in the penalty box, which set up a penalty that led to the score 2-4, Lindsey up. That was not going to stop the Grizzlies from making their finally push and when sophomore Sergio Tapia struck the ball from outside the box to give the Grizzlies a goal. The score stood at 3-4, Grizzlies defense was playing hard until it was broke down by a Lindsey forward who struck the ball in the back of the net to put the score at 5-3, which would be the final score for Granite’s first home game.

“We played a good game we just gave up to many goals to get back in it,” said Granite’s head coach Espino.

The Grizzlies next scrimmage is at Dinuba High school on December 4, but the the Grizzlies don’t officially start their league until December 11. When they travel to cross-town rival the Monache Marauders everyone is invited to come and support the Grizzlies as they try to become EYL champions.
