Panthers pound the Grizzlies

Can you say a cross-town rivalry? Well, if you follow that up with a stunning upset you get the Porterville Panthers beating EYL favorite Grizzlies in a shocking doubles loss and doubles shutout on Wednesday, September 19.
With a shroud of defeat around her, Anna Griggs became a beacon of light as she held both of her opponents to a two point game. She started of by shutting out Panther Holly Harline in a 6-0 victory. Then Griggs backhanded Panther Kelsey Proctor to a 6-2 win and then went on to receive a 6-3 doubles victory for Granite with the aid of Caitlin Jetter. After her 3-0 Panther sweep on the night, Anna went on to say, “When playing against a rival school there’s a lot of pressure because it puts our school name on the line, I’m glad I did well and I hope to continue to do so.” Anna still remains undefeated and each week tennis coaches should be asking themselves, “How do you stop Anna Griggs?”
Brianne Ward showed she was a force to be reckoned with as she lost 5-7 to Proctor but came back to shut out Shiloah Gibson in the second round with a 6-0 victory. After her match, Ward said, “It felt good to beat her rival school because it shows we will always dominate them.”
Caitlin Jetter showed her stamina as she beat Panther Gibson 6-1 in the first round but then losing 2-6 to Hartline in the second round.
Despite such success, the Panthers doubles teams killed the Grizzlies, as the Panther dominated not just the first round but the second and also the third round. But Anna Griggs had something to say about the Panthers sweeping the Grizzlies in doubles.
Overall, the ladies did their best. Porterville has a much bigger team and our girls can only go for so long. Still leading strong in EYL, the Lady Grizzlies will go on to face yet another cross-town rival the Monache Marauders on Wednesday September 26. So go out and show our ladies some love as they will murder a Marauder or two.
