Grizzlies Blown Out by Huskies

he Granite Hills Grizzly boy’s basketball team hosted the Hanford West Huskies on Tuesday, December 11. After coming off a win against Arvin in their last home game the Grizzlies were determined to win. Due to recent injuries and lack of players coming to practice the Grizzly varsity had to play with only eight players. The Grizzlies ended up losing 45-82.
To start off the game the Grizzlies started were Nathan Cardova, Micheal Jeff, Curtis Keene, Matthew Camargo, and Chuck Taylor. The Granite’s Hills head coach Bud Luther was ready to play a tough Hanford West team.
The Huskies won the tip off and scored the first two points of the first quarter. With 5 minutes left in the quarter a Husky guard scored making the game 10 to 4. The Huskies controlled most of the first quarter from there on out.
The Grizzlies sophomore guard, Matthew Camargo, hit a three with three minutes left in the first quarter. Right after Camargo scored, number 12 from Hanford West team came back with a three of his own making the score 19 to 7. At the end of the first quarter Hanford was up 28 to 7.
The Grizzlies started off with the ball in the second quarter. The Grizzly cheerleaders cheered, “Go Grizzlies Go,” to try and pick up the Granite Hills team. The first point of the second quarter went to junior center Nathan Cardova making the score 28 to 9.
The Huskies were having a good all around shooting night. Threes were just dropping for the Huskies. Hanford West kept up a good press throughout the game which resulted in several Granite Hills turnovers. At the end of the first half Hanford West was up 47 to 20.
“We are doing horrible,” said sophomore center Robbie Scruggs. “We aren’t playing our best.”
After having a horrible first half, the Grizzlies were ready to start off with a fresh new look.
The Grizzlies started with the ball in the second half but; had the ball swiped away by good defense from the Huskies. In the sixth minute, Curtis Keene knocked down a three making the score 25 to 54. The Huskies then came back scoring a jump shot from 18 feet away.
Chuck Taylor then hit a long three making the score 35 to 60. The Husky coach then called a timeout to have a quick pick up chat. At the end of the third the score was 35 to 66.
To start off the fourth quarter a husky guard hit a three causing the score to be 35 to 69. In the sixth minute senior guard Micheal Jeff did a little juke move on a husky defender causing him to go inside for a sweet reverse lay up making the score 39 to 69.
Curtis Keene then hit a jumper in the bottom of the fourth quarter making the score 45 to 78. The game ended with the Huskies winning 45 to 82.
“I felt that in the beginning of the game our team was lackadaisical,” stated Matthew Camargo. “The other team wanted it more. We didn’t want it as much.”
The Granite Hills Junior varsity team also lost there game 37 to 52. The freshmen as well lost their game 51 to 39.
The Grizzly basketball team will be playing there next game here on Friday, December 14 against the Woodlake tigers.
