Can anyone say an easy win?
Not anyone rooting for the Grizzlies.
The Granite Hills varsity tennis team (8-4-1, 2-2-1 EYL) faced cross-town rivals, the Porterville Panthers (15-2, 5-0 EYL) on Wednesday, April 2, at home. The Panthers took a breezy win over the Grizzlies, 13-5.Which helped them keep their perfect winning steak in EYL this season.
Shaking things up a bit was Granite's Anthony Tiernan as he battled and won his match, 6-3. In doubles Majid Hassan and Ben Jetter shut down their opponents, 6-4. At the end of round 1, the Panthers lead 4-2.
In round two Will Neal proved he could hang with just about anyone. Neal took a victory to end his day at 6-4. In doubles Hassan and Jetter kept worked the court as best as possible and cruised to another victory, 6-4.
"They didn't feel like they had to be intimidated," Smee said. "I felt like it was a level playing field today."
But, a few wins didn't cut it for the Grizzlies in the first couple of rounds. Porterville clung to an 8-4 lead.
In round 3 no one managed to take on a Panther and pull off a win in singles matches.
However, in doubles Neal and Tiernan teamed up and glided to a 6-4 victory.
