The Lady Grizzlies just couldn't hang in the ball game as they faced cross-town rivals, the Monache Marauders on Wednesday, March 26, which was Granite's first EYL (East Yosemite League) game. The Lady Grizzlies fell to the Lady Marauders, 11-1.

"Monache is good team, but in that game we kind of beat ourselves," said Natalie Garcia. "Hopefully we can move on from this game and not dwell on it too much, there is still a lot of game left for us."

In the first inning was all about defense, as Monache and Granite got an easy three outs. The game stayed scoreless.

In the second inning Monache's Chandra Jones changed spiced things up a bit when she hit a homerun, with one runner on third base. Monache had a 2-0 lead on Granite and didn't plan on stopping there.

The third inning seemed to be taken over by the Lady Marauders as they continued to play tough defense, Lady Marauders lead 3-0.

But, junior Stacie Campos wasn't one to go down without a fight though. Campos stepped up to the plate and hit to deep center field. She was the only one from Granite to get a triple. She went 1-for-3.

Practice really appeared to pay off for the Lady Marauders and by the fifth inning they clung to a 7-0, against the Lady Grizzlies.

In the same inning senior Sabrina Hernandez came up the plate and picked her pitch, gave it all she had… bingo. Hernandez hit a homerun over the fences. She ended up going 1-for-2.

"It's always disappointing to lose, but overall we are focused on winning games that we can and beating teams that are in our division," coach Gabe Rodriguez said. "They are defending EYL champs, but we had a bad game."

Kari Burroughs and Deanna Alamillo both went 1-for-3. Alamillo also had one stolen base.

"Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and get a better shot against Monache," said Rodriguez. "It was a tough game."
