Could bad weather stop the Lady Grizzlies from winning? The answer is no, and on Tuesday, January 29, the Lady Grizzlies faced the Delano Lady Tigers at 4:30 p.m. With muddy fields and brisk winds, Granite won 6-3 by the end of the night.

"The whole mid-field played really good, they worked together very well," proclaimed Coach Gabe Rodriguez.

The first half started off slow for both teams, but ten minutes later things began to pick up. Senior Jasmine Manriquez pushed herself a throughout the first half and that paid off when she scored, 1-0.

Later on senior Mari Garcia took a pass from a mid-fielder and scored for the Lady Grizzlies, 2-0. The Lady Tigers didn't just give up right then and there, they continued to move the ball around and give long passes to the corners. To finish the first half off senior Mayte Bravo dribbled pass defenders and took a shot, which hit the left side of the goalie's net; another goal for Granite. The first half would end at 3-0, Granite.

"The goals we scored weren't the usual one-on-one types; many of them were a team effort. The ball was passed around really well, which benefited us tonight," said Rodriguez.

The second half started off slowly for the Lady Grizzlies, as they struggled to get back in the groove. Simple mistakes made by the whole team cost the Lady Grizzlies two goals within the first ten minutes of the second half. One goal was a penalty kick and anther was dribbled in by a Lady Tiger, which made the score 3-2.

With 30 minutes left the Lady Grizzlies knew there was no time to mess around. Mid-fielder Bravo and Vanessa Alcantar played good defense, which made it difficult for anything to get passed them.

Minutes later Garcia dribbled passed defenders and put scored again for the Lady Grizzlies, 4-2. Garcia showed off her skills again as she dribbled by two defenders and scored again, making the score 5-2.

With just ten minutes to go sophomore Deanna Alamillo received a pass from a teammate and scored, 6-2.

Delano wasn't about the give up just yet. With just five minutes left the Lady Tigers played tough offense and scored one final goal before the night was over, 6-3. The score would stay this way in favor for the Lady Grizzlies. Goalie Zoe Kisling finished off the night with four saves.
