Golf season is here once again and nothing, but fun in the sun is expected. This year's golf team should be competition, much more so than last year. Head coach David Coldiron expects the team to win a few matches by the end of the season.

One word to describe last year's team would be "young." However, last year's team consisted of three freshman, two sophomores, and a junior.

Returning to this year's varsity golf team is going to be senior John Murstock, sophomore Joel Jacuinda, Robert Jaimez, and Matt Munoz. But, a young team doesn't mean anything to these players. Player Jacuinda is one that has a lot of golf experience.

This year, there are 12 players, which will be enough for two teams.

"I feel pretty good [about winning], we have a good team,” said Jacuinde. “If we bring our A game we can win a couple of matches,"

According to coach Coldiron taking EYL (East Yosemite League) might not be in store for the Grizzlies.

Coldiron has been a coach for over ten years now, two of which have been boys’ varsity golf at Granite Hills.

“Well, Joel has worked extremely hard to improve his game,” said Coldiron. “He played a lot over the summer.”

The Grizzlies first game has been postponed to due weather conditions. But, the Grizzlies will face cross-town rivals, the Monache Marauders on Tuesday, March 4. This will also be their first league match.

“It is about seeing things to the finish, even when you are down. It is about consistency and hard work if you want to be a good golfer,” said Coldiron.

Well, we have a young team, and I can’t make any promises on our season, but I will try my best to make it to the next level. I hope I can represent Granite Hills in area. It takes hard work to be a champion and I will work hard to be one.
