Let's just say that a 3-0 loss against the Dinuba Emperors wasn't the turnout the Lady Grizzlies wanted for their first home game.
"It was the worst performance as a team, but bad games do happen, even to us," said coach Gabe Rodriguez.
With the fact that the Lady Grizzlies had eight errors overall; the Emperors had more luck on their side.
"They didn't' really rock on us," said Rodriguez. "The game was given up by just errors that led to them winning and us not playing our game."
In the third inning two runs were scored by the Emperors. Later on in the bottom of the third, another run was scored by the Emperors. One bad inning for the Grizzlies and the outcome was a 3-0 loss.
There were only five innings played due to light conditions and a time limit.
Early on in the game, pitcher, Sarah Blackburn took a ground ball and held a runner at third just by "starring her down." After Blackburn threw to first for an easy out, first basemen Sabrina Hernandez threw home. The runner going home tried to slide by catcher Zoe Kisling, but was called out.
Natalie Garcia also had a diving play that gave the Grizzlies an out, as she threw out the runner at first base.
"We played good today, but we really didn't bring our A game," said third basemen Margie Malacara. "We shouldn't have lost this game; hopefully we can come together as a team next time."
The Lady Grizzlies are now 2-4 (overall) and will play another home game next Tuesday, March 11 against Woodlake High School.
