Finally! On Wednesday, March 13, Granite Hills High school christened their new all weather track by hosting the first league meet of the season against the Tulare Union Redskins.

The mile runners were excited and pumped to do their best. After a close race, Abraham Arevalo was informed that he had taken second place overall and first for Granite boys.

Anthony Hernandez also took first overall in the frosh/soph two mile.

"I think I did well, I was happy with my place, but I'm going to do better next time.” freshman Arevalo said.

In the varsity mile run senior Sal madrigal was very pleased to have outran Tulare Union’s Domingo Fernandez. It was a very close race with about a second in between each runners finish time. Sal came out on top.

As the night went on Granite was more and more satisfied with how their runners were performing. Senior Louie Espino took first place in the 110 hurdles, as did sophomore Julian Espino in the junior varsity 300 hurdles.

"I think I gave it my all, I was quite satisfied with my performance." sophomore Espino said.

In the boys’ frosh/soph 400 meter run, sophomore Tommy Brumfield took first overall and was followed closely by Espino (Julian), who took third.

"I feel that I did well, but I have room for much improvement." Brumfield said. "We did well, we're all just learning, but I'm happy with how our team did."

As the season starts the Grizzlies look forward to a year of growth, as well as giving it their best every time.
