Grizzlies Fall to Tulare Redskins

After a disappointing loss to Monache, the varsity boys’ baseball team was not able to bounce back against the Tulare Union Redskins. There were a lot of ups and downs in this game for the Grizzlies, but the final score was 13-4, in favor of the Redskins. Their new record in EYL (East Yosemite League) is 0-2.
Grizzlies opened up with strong pitching in the first inning. At the top of the first, the Redskins sent three batters to the plate and pitcher Andrew Priego sent all three batters back to their dug out.
The bottom of the first, shortstop Alex Lamb hit one to the left field fence, earning him a double, and Steven Dummar was able to pick up an RBI by hitting a single to the right field, bringing Lamb home. The Grizzlies finished the first inning ahead of the Redskins 1-0.
Both teams failed to score any runs in the second and third innings, but the Grizzlies showed aggressiveness. First baseman Kyle Forbes jumped up to catch a pop-fly to secure the first out. A Redskins player hit a single and soon after attempted to get a big lead off of first, but catcher Dummar threw him out at first base to record the third out.
Both teams scored several runs in the forth inning, including a home run for each team.
In the top of the fourth inning the Redskins dominated by racking up six runs. The bottom of the fourth inning the Grizzlies were able to cut down their deficit. The third in the Grizzly batting line-up, Tyler McFadden, hit a single. Next up to bat was Dummar. After two balls, his third pitch was placed just right, and he blasted a shot over the left field fence to knock in two runs and earning him two more RBIs. And the Grizzlies were unable to put any more runs on the scoreboard. Final score of the fourth inning was 6-3.
The Redskins came back strong at the top of the fifth and added two more runs to their score. Bottom of the sixth, Tredway ran to first on an infield single then he stole second base, and then moved to third on a past ball. Tomas Velasquez hit a ground ball that knocked Tredway home, making the final score of the sixth inning 8-4.
The top of the seventh inning the Grizzlies had a tough time on the mound. They went through three pitchers and gave up three more runs. Gabe Malendrini threw just one pitch to the Redskins, getting the opposing batter to hit an easy ground ball.
The bottom of the seventh inning the Grizzlies were unable to catch up from a 9 run deficit. Final score: Redskins 13, Grizzlies 4.
Pitcher Tredway made a total of six strike-outs.
Dummar had three RBIs and Velasquez had one RBI.
