With the Lady Redskins previously beating the Lady Grizzlies on their home court by  two points, the lady basketball teams entered the gym Wednesday 30, to play an aggressive game. “I expected that we were going to win, because we always beat them on this court,” stated Lady Grizzly Angela Rispoli. The final score of the game was 61-42, Lady Grizzlies.

Lady Grizzly Emily Fechner and Lady Redskin Jeni Cunna started off the game setting up for the jump ball. Grizzlies won the jump ball giving them possession.

Starting off right away the Lady Grizzlies showed why they didn’t seem worried about the previous loss against the Redskins. Granite got the ball down the court and gave Tulare Union the tempo of the game. Right off the back the Lady Grizzlies found Vanessa Ortiz, who then put up a 3 and sank it.

Coming back onto the court for the second quarter, the Lady Redskins tried to get back into the game but, the Lady Grizzlies weren’t about to let that happen. The first play of the quarter the Redskins turned over the ball and the Grizzlies once again found Ortiz, who put up another 3 and sank it.

The first half of the game Granite was on fire and Tulare Union couldn’t put them out. With the half time score being 30-12, normally a score at the end of the game; Granite went into half time with only thoughts of ways to put more points up on the board.

Granite came onto the court and found Fechner, at the block, who faked out a girl and put the ball up for a basket. As Tulare Union began to put out the fire, they began to press Granite. As the Lady Redskins pressed Granite, they soon found out that their press was nothing for Lady Grizzlie’s point guard, Quaraya Fuston.

Fuston got the ball from teammates and took the ball down the court, breaking the ankles of the Lady Redskins left and right. With Fuston’s leadership, Granite was able to run their offense and continue to score.

At one point of the game the Redskins began to look as if they might be able to put out the fire, cutting Granite’s lead to 16. That was when the Lady Grizzlies began to attack again like Grizzlies in the wild.

With Granite sinking 3’s all night long and shutting down Tulare Union’s “big man,” Cunna, they continued to hold the game in their control. The Lady Redskins only hope was to get more points on the board from outside the key, however Granites zone defense didn’t make that easy either.

Granite walked out of the gym Wednesday 30, with a victory of 20 points over what some may say is their true rival. The final score was 61-42.
