A real battle against the Tulare Union Lady Redskins was set at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 22. The Lady Grizzlies put up a good fight, but were defeated 5-1. In the last trip to Tulare Union the Lady Grizzlies were defeated 4-1.

"Today's game was a heartbreaker for all of us, but I think we controlled the field a lot more. We talked more and worked as team," said freshman Jenny Taylor.

The first half of the game started off shaky for both teams as the cold weather seemed to slow everyone down. Defensively, the Lady Redskins held their ground and did their best to not let the ball past half.

Senior Mari Garcia tested the Lady Redskins constantly throughout the first half as she battled to try and score.

Minutes into the first half the Lady Redskins took a shot down the middle and scored, 1-0.

Sophomores Vanessa Alcantar and Deanna Alamillo kept everyone's spirits up and focused on beating the Lady Redskins. Alamillo played in the mid-field and kept the Lady Redskins from coming up the middle throughout the game.

The Lady Redskins managed to push past Granite's defense and score three more times, making the final score of the first half 4-0. Two of the shots being simple errors on Granite Hills part.

Just when all hope was lost, the Lady Grizzlies decided to shake things up a bit and put in freshman Katie Taylor as a forward. Within the first minute of Taylor being on offense she dribbled past Lady Redskin defenders and scored, 5-1.

Minutes into the second half the Lady Redskins crossed the ball into the middle and scored, 5-1 and that would be the final score for Tuesday's game. Granite's next game is Thursday, January 24 at Caesar Chavez and will kick off with junior varsity at 4:30 p.m. followed by varsity at 6:00 p.m.

"We did our best to play them tough and it just didn't cut it this time around," said Goalie Zoe Kisling. Kisling finished off the night with nine saves.
