Oh! To be a Christian fundamentalist!
Daniel Hensley | 11/29/07 | Opinion
o those of you who are Christian fundamentalists, I apologize my editorial’s bashing of your beliefs. I will not apologize for my views though, so do not get the two confused. Don’t get me wrong though, I love God for all that He has done for me, and his son was an awesome, far out guy in an earthy sort of way. That being said, none of you DARE call me Christian; at the risk of putting me on the same level as the hypocritical, intolerant radicals that call themselves “Christian” fundamentalists.
These so called “Christians,” of whom I speak, seem to believe that the war in Iraq is divine punishment for tolerating homosexuals. These “Christians” seem to get kicks out of demonstrating in front of military funerals waving flags like “Thank God for dead soldiers!” and “God hates fags.” If they were REAL Christians, they would realize that we are all indeed children of the big guy and that he hates NONE OF US. It seems that they can’t be happy with the fact that we’re over there killing off ‘pagans’ left and right. They feel the need to go off and complain about something else.
There is an old saying that states “If you aren’t part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.” Well, these people (and I’m linking these fundamentalists to the human race simply because I’m not sure what form of life is low enough to take them without being insulted) are definitely part of the problem. They aren’t proposing a suitable answer to the war. They aren’t even supporting those who are fighting for their very lives. The troops don’t even have the ideal that they once clung to anymore (that was blown out the window when we all finally realized it was really just a war for oil….). How bad must those troops feel when they look at the news from home and see extremists like these saying that their deaths are God sent, that their deaths are because people are starting to finally tolerate one another as they should. How hopeless must they feel when they see that?
Now, those of you who know my political stance must be thinking, “Since when does this guy support war?” I don’t. I DO support those who are forced to fight and die on foreign soil due to circumstance and an ignorant leader. Just because I hate the war does not mean that I think it’s acceptable for false Christians to demonstrate in front of their funerals. And to those of you who are NOT Christian, be thankful that you don’t have lunatics like these filling your ranks. As I said before, I’ve stopped calling myself a Christian simply because of their actions. It’s sad that the loudest seem to represent the quiet ones as well.
To finish this off, I have just two things left to say. Support the troops, not the war, and DON’T BE A “CHRISTIAN” FUNDAMENTALIST EXTREMIST!
