The second annual "Night of Welcome" is on its way to Granite Hills. This year the night will have even more variety since it will also be an open house open to the entire school and community. The night will be held on March 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This night was originally a night to show Granite off to the incoming freshman, but now it has been combined with an open house because Granite Hills wanted the whole community to attend the event.

"We want to encourage everyone to be able to come," Granite Hills’ media director Catherine May said.

The faculty also wanted more people to show up to the event than last year, and they thought they could do this by combining to the two nights.

"Hopefully we can get more people here, and get [them] in one night instead of two," Principal Veryl Ann Duncan said as she was referring to the idea of having open house and NOW all together in one night instead of two.

The people of Granite are trying to spread the word out to the community as fast as they can.

Duncan will be sending letters to the parents of Granite Hills’ students as well as incoming freshman. Industrial technology teacher Dean Morris made posters to spread all around the school, as well as the community. May will be contacting K-TIP radio and the Porterville Recorder to see if they are interested in spreading the word out to the community, as well as attending the night.

"We are hoping to get the word out to as many people as possible," May said.

The theme will be again a Hawaiian theme. Tiki torches will be put out all over the campus and teachers will be dressed in Hawaiian shirts.

The night will begin with dinner and live entertainment from various groups at Granite Hills at 5:30 p.m. Touring around the campus will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will continue until the end of the night.

A book fair will be held in the library.

Clubs and organizations from Granite Hills will have their own booths to show everybody what their club is about. The booths will be held either on top of the pryamid or around it. Each department will open up their rooms demonstrating to attendees what they do in their department.

Each department for Grizz-com, the new school of digital communications and design, will be having four classrooms open highlighting the journalism class in room 802, video production in room the library, yearbook in room 812, and computer graphics in room.

Door prizes will be given out at about 7:00 p.m.

Child care will be held at the east side of school for anybody who wants to leave their children in the care of the child development class.
