Granite Hills Academic Decathlon team won the county championships for the sixth year in a row.

ranite Hills High School won the 2008 Tulare county Academic Decathlon Championships on Feb. 4. The team won with 34,419 points. Porterville High School followed in second place.
Both teams, team A and team B, walked away with a combined 50 medals, seven plaques, three individual trophies, a team trophy and a large school trophy. Granite Hills walked away with more medals than any other school.
The awards ceremony took place at the College of Sequoias at around 3:30 p.m.
“I am very happy that we won because we worked very hard and we deserved to win,” AcaDeca team member Julio Gonzales said.
The next competition will be the state competition during March 7-10 in Sacramento.
“The state’s a different world, in the sense that our puddle is small here and you get out there to the championships and it’s pretty tough,” adviser Mark Harriger said.
The team will still continue their practices for the state competition.
“Most of these kids have been in it last year so they know what it’s like; they know what they’re up against,” Harriger said. “It’ll be a real battle.”
The Granite Hills AcaDeca team is divided up into two teams, team A and team B, those teams are divided up into sub-teams, Varsity, Scholastic, and Honors. The following students from the Granite Hills team won the following recognitions.

Granite Hills gana el campionato del condado

Granite Hills High School gano los Tulare county Academic Decathlon Championships del 2008 el 4 de febrero. El equipo gano con 34,419 puntos. Porterville High School siguio en segundo lugar.

"Estoy muy contento que ganamos porque trabajamos muy duro y merecíamos ganar," dijo el miembro del equipo AcaDeca Julio Gonzales.
El siguiente concurse será el concurso estatal durante el 7-10 de marzo en Sacramento.
"El estado es un mundo diferente, en el sentido que nuestro charco aquí es pequeño y sales a los campeonatos y es duro," dijo el consejero Mark Harriger.
El equipo continuara sus practicas para el concurso estatal.
"La mayoría de estos niños han estado en esto el año anterior, así que saben lo que es; saben como es la competencia," dijo Harriger. "Realmente, será una batalla."

I'm soooo proud of this year’s and last year’s Academic Decathlon teams!!! After being a proud member for three years, it is amazing to know that students are excited to be learning and excited to keep Granite Hills in the top spot!! Congratulations to Daniel Hensley for keeping the tradition of holding the Varsity trophy at Granite Hills! I can't stress enough how much Academic Decathlon meant to me, and how much it has helped me with my life in college. Mr. Harriger is an amazing teacher, and an amazing coach. It shows with how much hard work he puts into the team by the outstanding wins! Congratulations to the team for making it to state, and getting medals (yes, I read the other article!!). And congratulations to Mr. Harriger for another win! |
