Choir update

In the past two weeks, the Granite Hills choir has kept themselves busy performing in concerts and even taking a field trip to the Clemmie Gill School of Science and Conservation.

The choir performed at the 2007 Annual Fall Exchange Concert on Tuesday, October 9, at the Buck Shaffer Memorial Auditorium. The concert is a pre-evaluation performance before festival season that the chamber and concert choirs from Monache, Porterville, and Granite Hills High Schools attended.

While Granite Hills lacked in size, it never reached a shortage on talent. Even though the choir had significantly less members then the others, they held their own, delivering powerful performances for the other choirs. The concert choir performed “Hush, Someone Is Calling My Name,” “Set Me as a Seal,” and “Lachrymose.” The chamber choir performed “Dulaman,” “Give Me Jesus,” and “How Can I Keep from Singing.”

"It went really well," said Granite Hills choir director, Sasanna Efseaff. "It's always a good experience to perform in front of your peers."

The choir then took a field trip to SCICON Friday, October 12. Even though they spend an hour a day together, the members took it as a chance to get to know each other a little bit better.

"It was fantastic. Everyone wanted to stay another night." said Efseaff. "It was so much fun," said Mariah Graham, a Granite Hills chamber and concert choir member. “I got to know the members I didn’t really know.”

To conclude a busy two weeks, the choir participated in the Fresno State Choir invitational on Friday, October 19. "They did a really good job." said Efseaff.

The choir has been working hard, making up for their lack of members with their extraordinary talent. To check out the Granite Hills Choir in action, their will be a choir concert Tuesday, October 30, at the Buck Shaffer Memorial Auditorium. The cost is $5.
