Radiohead – All I Need

Radiohead dares to open the eyes of fans and MTV viewers worldwide. This morning, May 1, 2008, MTV debuted Radiohead’s newest video, “All I Need,” on all MTV broadcasting stations
around the nation.
The song is off of their latest album, “In Rainbows” which hit the web for download in October, 2007 and stores at the end of December, worldwide by January 2. “In Rainbows” is Radiohead’s seventh album, it took five months to record from February through June and is recorded with Ato Records.
“All I Need” is a video directed by Mike Mills and is about two boys in different worlds. Realistically, the same world, but the boys live very different lives. One boy is a privileged child, going to a private school, judging by their attire (they wear uniforms). The other boy is a poor, Asian child who’s every day life consists of waking up, a quick wash if possible, to work, eat, to work, repeat.
As the music of Radiohead plays, the screen is divided in two, the privileged boy on the left, and the worker on the right. The video showcases what the privileged boy does through out his day, and the worker, whose job is to glue the soles into shoes.
In the end of the privileged boy’s day, he sits on his bed and begins to take off his shoes and socks; the worker boy begins to put his shoes together, glue and all. By now, you could probably guess what’s coming; the worker boy produces shoes that the privileged boy wears. At the very end of the video, a line of text appears on the screen, it reads “Some things cost more than you realize.”
The main purpose of the video was to exploit what really goes on behind the scenes of our every day materialistic pleasures. On Radiohead’s website, there are many links like W.A.S.T.E, supporting their cause and explaining their views and purpose for their album. There is much more to the cd, go and get your copy today and keep your eyes out for the video on MTV Video Wake-Up and The Big Ten, all viewable on the MTV network.
